DAY ONE
Depart: Christchurch or Nelson, 8.30am / 9am
People travelling from Nelson can enjoy a complimentary crossing of the Buller Gorge Swingbridge, by producing a confirmed booking at Brunnerton Lodge. https://bullergorge.co.nz/ Christchurch travelers can similarly pick up a free pass too, if you think you will return home that way.
Continue, and turn right at Inangahua Junction. When you arrive at Reefton grab a coffee and a cake at the Broadway café and tearooms.
Arrive Greymouth 1pm, use the early check-in you arranged with Brunnerton Lodge upon your booking. Take additional jackets, torches and passes to Shantytown. Head off for your adventure heritage adventure.
Lunch options: Eat at Shantytown, or Greymouth Cafes; DP1 Café, Brooke Murphy’s Café, Speights Ale House. Or, if you need to fuel up on traditional NZ fare, there are some wonderful takeaways.
Afternoon: Head to Shantytown (Lunch available). By booking through Brunnerton Lodge you also get cheaper entry fees.
Then head to Woods Creek 10km east of Shantytown. https://www.shantytown.co.nz Woods Creek is one of the gems of the West Coast. Old Chinese gold workings set among a wonderful array of walking tracks and native bush. Great interpretation provided by the Department of Conservation.
Return to Brunnerton Lodge.
Dinner: Cook your own, or have some Cobden Takeaways fish and chips on the beach.
DAY TWO
Visit Hokitika, great tourist town of cafes, shops and seafront, and the stunning Hokitika Gorge. Return to Brunnerton Lodge 3pm.
Visit the historic Brunner Industrial Site, just several hundreds metres walk away.
Catch a sunset, and have dinner at Monteiths Brewery. http://www.monteiths.co.nz
DAY THREE
Morning: Visit Punakaiki and the famous Pancake Rocks.
View the wonders of the stunningly scenic Coast Road, rated among the top drives in the world.
Afternoon: Return to Christchurch / Nelson in the afternoon, via the Buller Gorge Swingbridge Adventure and Heritage Park!
